Fashion Design

Today’s fashion designers are catalysts for creativity, creating new trends and responding to consumer demands, industry developments and new technology, from the initial design to the finished garment. This bachelor’s programme, which promotes an original style, trains highly qualified designers for the engaging fashion industry.

Participants learn to create collections based on careful analysis of the market, trends, materials and fabrics, and to translate ideas and inspiration from any form, concept or art, or simply from their own experiences, into successful combinations of personal vision with industry needs or brand design strategies.

Istituto Marangoni’s bachelor’s programme in Fashion Design covers key aspects of illustration and graphic design techniques, including studies of form, colour, pattern construction and draping, as well as a careful analysis of garment manufacturing techniques. Research for creative and original product development is central to the programme.

Studies in heritage design and dress culture provide the skills needed to make a critical assessment of a brand’s or client’s lifestyle and heritage, while communication skills provide a professional approach to negotiating and presenting ideas to companies and new clients, along with a professional portfolio of work.

During the final year, participants work as independent practitioners, and with the constant support of a faculty team of industry experts, they are encouraged to participate in international talent competitions during the course. At a final graduation event or fashion show, collections or portfolios are presented to a selected audience of leading experts, journalists, bloggers, designers and headhunters — a unique experience that opens doors to industry networks and career opportunities.
