The Master’s program in International Relations and Diplomacy (MIR-D) responds to the growing need to train young professionals in Geneva for decision-making roles within international organizations, diplomatic services, and the private sector.
Located in the same city as the United Nations European headquarters, the program takes full advantage of Geneva’s unique role as a global hub for multilateral diplomacy.
The program is offered in Geneva, Switzerland. The school provides assistance with finding accommodation and features a modern campus with a library, café, and restaurant. There are also ample opportunities for sports and other leisure activities. The program is eligible for Swedish student loans (CSN). The master’s programs at IIG are offered in the evening, allowing you to work part-time to finance your studies.
The program in International Relations and Diplomacy provides access to an extensive network within international institutions such as UNHCR, UNECE, UNCTAD, WTO, WHO, ILO, ITU, WIPO, WEF, and ICRC, as well as various diplomatic representations. The program is designed for students with ambitions to work at a high level within international politics, diplomacy, and global cooperation. Students have the opportunity to earn a dual degree in collaboration with the University of Plymouth upon completion of the program.

Program Structure
The master’s program runs over one year. In addition to core courses in international relations, focusing on the UN system and the European Union, foreign policy and geoeconomics, global economy and economic diplomacy, the program guides young professionals toward decision-making positions, with courses in international trade organizations and statistics, communication and negotiation, multimedia, and the internet.
Learning Outcomes
- Students will be able to apply advanced knowledge of current international political issues and use relevant terminology, as well as formulate and advocate appropriate solutions to complex global problems.
- Students will be able to conduct research according to academic principles and provide a critical analysis of contemporary international challenges supported by various theoretical perspectives in international relations.
