Elevate Your Culinary Skills

Through elective majors, specializations, international study trips, and hands-on projects, students have the opportunity to delve deeper into their area of interest and prepare for leadership roles in the global food and hospitality industry.

Regardless of specialization, all students undergo the same rigorous foundational training in culinary arts or baking and pastry arts, while developing core competencies — with a focus on leadership, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship. The bachelor’s programs are offered at CIA’s campus in New York and are completed in 38 months (or less for students with transfer credits).

The Culinary Institute of America is located in scenic Hyde Park, New York. The school offers assistance with finding accommodation and has a modern campus with a library, restaurants, and a wide range of sports and recreational activities. The program is eligible for student loans.

This specialization is designed for students who want to work with the role of food in society. You develop practical skills and a deeper understanding of how food systems can be improved, while training to communicate complex issues such as food waste, food security, sustainability, and food justice.

Culinary Science

Where science meets creativity.

Are you interested in recipe development, product development, or working in a test kitchen? Culinary Science combines food science with creative cooking and prepares you for innovative roles in restaurant chains, research and development departments, and product and concept development.

Hospitality Management

Leadership in a global and multifaceted industry.

The hospitality industry is broad and dynamic — from restaurants, hotels, and resorts to sports arenas, entertainment venues, and casinos. This specialization gives you a comprehensive understanding of both food & beverage and operational management, which is crucial for success in leadership roles within the hospitality industry.

In addition, a wide range of elective courses are available, such as advanced pastry arts, wine and beverages, beverage production, sustainable cooking, and in-depth explorations of African, Asian, Japanese, and Mediterranean culinary traditions.

Internship and Experience

A full-semester internship is an integrated part of the program and gives you direct industry experience. You can work with CIA’s partner organizations in restaurants, hotels, and catering, as well as in CIA’s own restaurants and bakery cafés. The internship provides you with valuable connections and opportunities for international careers.
